Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and a hashed password. This is used to identify you, secure your account, and send account-related emails.

Shopping list data

We store the lists, items, and household data you create in Shopolit. This is the core of the service — without storing it, live sync across devices and with household members would not be possible.

Receipt and photo data (Plus only)

When you use Receipt Tracking, photos are sent to our AI provider for processing and are not stored after analysis. Extracted data (item names, prices) is stored to power spending insights and smart suggestions. We do not retain raw photos.

Usage information

We collect information about how you use Shopolit — such as features used and errors encountered — to improve the service and fix bugs. This data is aggregated and not tied to your identity where possible.

Device information

We collect basic device details (model, operating system, app version) to ensure compatibility and diagnose technical issues.

How We Use Your Information

• To operate and sync your shopping lists across devices and household members.
• To power smart suggestions based on your shopping history.
• To provide spending insights from your receipt data (Plus).
• To send account-related emails (verification, password reset, billing).
• To diagnose errors and improve the reliability of the service.

We do not use your information to show you advertisements or build advertising profiles.

Shared Lists and Household Data

Shopolit is built for households. When you share a list with other members, they can see the items on that list and any changes you make in real time. You control which lists are shared and who is invited.

Third-Party Service Providers

We work with trusted third-party providers to operate the service, including cloud infrastructure, payment processing (Stripe), crash reporting, and AI processing for Plus features. These providers access only what is necessary to perform their function and are bound not to use your data for any other purpose.

AI features (recipe import, receipt tracking) use external AI APIs. Data sent to these providers is used solely for processing your request and is not used to train models.

No Advertising. No Data Selling.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information or shopping data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing platforms. Shopolit is funded by Plus subscriptions — not advertising.

We may disclose information where required by law or in response to a valid legal request.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure credential storage. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable precautions and will notify you promptly of any breach affecting your data.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access and update your personal information at any time.
• Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Export your list data in a portable format.
• Delete your account and all associated data.
